Chip timing coming to cross country championship
Halifax, NS -A precedent is going to be set at the 2005 Dalhousie-hosted Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) cross country championship; chip timing will be used for the first time at a CIS meet. "We're thrilled to be bringing this technology to the CIS," says Louis Brill, event chair. "This is exciting technology for the sport of running and we are proud to be doing this for the first time to enhance the experience for our athletes and teams." Chip timing technology will be provided by Atlantic Chip Event Timing and involves each athlete attaching an electronic transponder to one of their shoes. The system is the same technology used at the Hawaii Ironman event and will provide accurate and instantaneous individual and team results. Dalhousie University is hosting the 2005 CIS Men's and Women's Cross Country championships for the first time since 1993. The event is set for November 12 at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax, NS. Last season was the best-ever for Dalhousie's cross country program as head coach Dan Hennigar led the women's squad to a CIS team gold medal. The men's Tigers are the strongest and most experienced team in years and are looking to reach the CIS podium for the first time since winning bronze in 1978. Stay tuned to the championship website for more information: http://cisport.ca/e/championships/cross_country/2005/index.cfm Come out and cheer on the Tigers!
