CIS fall championship season kicks off next week
OTTAWA (CIS) - Fall championship season is only six days away in Canadian Interuniversity Sport.
The University of Toronto and the University of Western Ontario are set to host the first two CIS tournaments of the 2007-08 campaign, the women's field hockey and women's rugby Nationals, respectively.
The CIS women's field hockey championship will get under way on Thursday, Nov. 1 in the Queen City, while the women's rugby tourney will kick off 24 hours later in London, Ont. Both national finals are scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 4.
A week later, UBC will play host to men's soccer (Nov. 8-11) in Vancouver, Cape Breton to women's soccer (Nov. 8-11) in Sydney, N.S. and Victoria to women's and men's cross country (Nov. 10).
The CIS football national semifinals, the Uteck and Mitchell Bowls, are set for Saturday, Nov. 11, with the winners advancing to the Desjardins Vanier Cup final on Friday, Nov. 23.
UBC (women's field hockey, women's soccer) and Guelph (women's and men's cross country) are both vying to defend a pair of CIS titles this fall, while StFX (women's rugby), Alberta (men's soccer) and Laval (football) claimed one fall banner apiece a year ago.
